CASE STUDY Aim of study: To prove that the resisted exercises given in the eccentric mode for quadriceps muscle is more effective and highly specific for increase in muscle girth, when compared to concentric mode of resisted exercises. Apparatus used: 1. Dead weight of 5 and 7 kgs 2. Inch tape 3. Couch Methodology : Subjects : Forty male healthy subjects were selected at the age group of 20-23 years. These subjects were divided in to two groups-experimental group of 20 and control group of 20.Each group is divided in to sub-groups.Under each sub-groups 5 subjects were selected. The quadriceps work performed by them are as below.

Methods : The right quadriceps muscle is taken for study. The subjecct of Control group is made to lie in supine. The right limb is fixed at hip at 90 degrees. The selected weight is tied to the ankle. The subject is asked to contract quadriceps in concentric mode to extend the knee from 135-0 degrees.Various repetitions are instituted with other subjects in the same group. In Experimental group same position is adopted and the knee is extended to 0 degree passively and the subject is instructed to contract the quadriceps eccentricaly with weight to bring the knee from 0-135 degrees. Various repetitions are instituted with other subjects in the same group. Two sessions were conducted per day for 1 month. The girth of quadriceps muscle at mid thigh level for each individual was measured and recorded at the beginning and end of the whole experiment.
